WHAT ARE THE WA4STEAM AWARDS?

The WA4STEAM Awards, from now on called “WA4STEAM Awards”, are annual awards, which will be presented at the WA4STEAM FUTURES FORUM in Barcelona in November 2023. The purpose of these awards is to recognise, give greater visibility to and promote female leaders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem (entrepreneurs, startups and members of the ecosystem) who become agents of change, thus promoting different leadership models.

Women Angels for STEAM Association (WA4STEAM), with CIF number G6767235358 and registered office at Plaza Xavier Cugat number 2, Edificio A, planta 2, oficina 1, 08174 San Cugat del Vallès, Spain (hereinafter, the “Organisation”)

TERRITORIAL SCOPE

Spain

WHO CAN APPLY?

They will be eligible for the WA4STEAM awards:

• All women with professional experience in the field of entrepreneurship in Spain, and who meet the criteria for “Best Female Entrepreneur in STEAM”.
• All Series A start ups that meet the criteria for “Best STEAM Start Up“.

CATEGORIES OF PARTICIPATION

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

1. “Best Woman Entrepreneur in STEAM”: For a woman whose trajectory in the world of entrepreneurship in STEAM startups (in any of its phases), is an example and a reference for women and men.
2. “Best STEAM Start Up”: STEAM Start Up led by at least one woman who has achieved Series A status.
3. “Best member of the ecosystem”: This third award will be given by the Organisation directly to the organisation, accelerator, VC, entity that has contributed the most to supporting the values of WA4STEAM in 2022. Nominations will not be accepted in this category. It will be chosen internally by the WA4STEAM partners.

CRITERIA

Category 1: “Best female entrepreneur in STEAM

Target group: Women with proven entrepreneurial experience.

It will be valued: Entrepreneurial experience; recognised prestige, having founded a successful project (it may or may not be ongoing and she may or may not continue to be linked to the project). Leadership, benchmark in her sector, mentor, generous, number of projects/startups launched, etc.

Category 2: “Best STEAM Start Up

Target group: Series A (or B) start-ups with WA4STEAM criteria: Innovation in STEAM, female co-founder, already completed a Series A.

The following will be assessed: Business opportunity; differentiation of the value proposition; degree of innovation and disruption; international scalability; strength of the entrepreneurial team and advisory board; level of impact on society, etc.

SENDING OF APPLICATIONS

• Applications are free of charge.
• The period for sending applications for the 1st Edition will be from 20.07.2023 until 30.09.2023 (period extendable by the organisation).
• Nominations must be submitted online, using the forms available on the website https://www.wa4steam.com/Awards.
• All mandatory information, marked with an asterisk on the form, must be filled in for the registration to be valid.
• When we accept your registration, it will be incorporated into and subject to the terms and conditions set out in this agreement.
• Entries submitted after the deadline or in a format other than that designated for this purpose in these rules will not be accepted. Or which do not comply with the conditions established in these rules.
• Entries involving the use of illegal means or practices will be disqualified.
• WA4STAM reserves the right to extend, suspend or modify the competition if it discovers illegal practices in the competition.

PUBLICATION OF INFORMATION:

Participants authorise WA4STEAM to include on the website https://womenangels4steam.com/awards, its social networks or those of its organisers and collaborators, the audio, video, text and image files of their property that are necessary to carry out the voting and promotion process related to the WA4STEAM Awards, without the right to any consideration, but in any case retaining the intellectual property rights they may have over them.

The organisation is not responsible for any errors or omissions that may be contained in the data provided by the participants and published on the website, and reserves the right to make the appropriate modifications.

VOTING

Voting by the jury will start on 15.10.2023 and end on 31.10.2023.

All applications received will be reviewed by the WA4STEAM team and its designated collaborators to ensure that they comply with the participation requirements described in these legal bases. The public profiles of the candidates, their projects and the quality of the material provided in the application will be assessed in order to decide the final list of official participants in each category.
WA4STEAM reserves the right to cancel an already validated and published candidacy after the complaint that the published information is not truthful and the verification that there has been some kind of deception in the registration process.
The organisation reserves the right to reassign a participant to a different category if it considers that he/she has entered incorrectly.

FINALISTS

The process of determining the finalists is carried out through the evaluations of the jury, which will be composed of external members of the organisation appointed by WA4STEAM.

WINNERS
The winners of all categories will be announced at the awards ceremony that will take place during the WA4STEAm Futures Forum on 15 November in Barcelona.

JURY
The awards are open to participants who meet the entry criteria.
All finalist entries will be reviewed by a jury. The jury’s decision will be final and not reviewable, nor will appeals be accepted with respect to the jury’s decision.

PUBLICATION OF RESULTS
After the 2023 awards event, all winners’ profiles will remain published on the WA4STEAM platform, ensuring greater visibility of all winners.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE ORGANISER
WA4STEAM Awards will ensure compliance with these rules at all times. It will be the responsibility of the organisation to supervise the process necessary to exercise the jury’s right to vote and to ensure the transparency of the process.
The Organisation is not responsible for the content submitted by the candidates.
The Organisation is excluded from any liability for damages of any kind that may be due to the temporary lack of availability or continuity of the operation of the website through which the promotion is participated, and in particular, but not exclusively, to failures in accessing the different pages and sending registration forms via the Internet.

DATA PROTECTION

BASIC INFORMATION

Data controller:

• Purposes: Participation in the WA4STEAM Awards and activities related to the purpose of the Organisation.
• Legitimation: Execution of a contract to which the data subject is a party, implementation at the request of the data subject of pre-contractual measures and/or consent of the data subject.
  Recipients: Collaborating entities necessary for holding the WA4STEAM Awards, our agency Trescom Comunicación, our Partners (sponsors of the awards) and recipients to whom the user has explicitly consented.
• Rights: Right of information and access to personal data, right of rectification and erasure, right to restriction of processing, right to object, right of portability, to digital will and not to be subject to profiling without human intervention.
  Origin: The data subjects themselves.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

For what purposes do we process your data and for how long will we keep it?
We process the personal data you provide for the purpose of evaluating your participation in the WA4STEAM Awards and other activities related to the purpose of the Organisation and the purposes include: the evaluation of your nomination; your participation in the Awards Gala; to make participants visible through different channels such as social networks and media; to personalise the information provided and your user experience; to understand how the user accesses and uses the service provided; to administer, monitor and improve the service provided and for other search and analysis purposes; to protect users, investigating fraud, harassment and other types of illegal activities.

The data provided will be kept for the time strictly necessary to pursue the purposes set out in these terms and conditions and, in the event that the processing is based on the data subject’s consent, until the data subject withdraws his or her consent or, thereafter, for the legally required periods of time.

What is the legitimation for the processing of your data?
The main justification is the necessity of the processing for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or for the implementation of pre-contractual measures at the request of the data subject and in some cases the user’s consent to the processing of his or her personal data for one or more specific purposes.

The processing of personal data of a minor may only be based on his or her consent if he or she is over 14 years of age. In the case of a minor under fourteen years of age, processing based on consent shall only be lawful if the consent of the holder of parental authority or guardianship is given.

To which recipients will your data be communicated?
Personal data will be communicated to third parties, in particular to the entities that collaborate for the organisation of the WA4STEAM Awards, as data processors.

These partners may be third parties who assist us in managing leads, providing technology services, such as platform providers, hosting services, maintenance and support on our databases, as well as on our software and applications that may contain data about you.

Advertising, marketing, digital media and social media agencies to help us deliver advertising, marketing and campaigns, to analyse their effectiveness and to manage your contact and enquiries.

These transfers are carried out with the utmost confidentiality through the signing of contractual clauses in compliance with article 28 of the General Data Protection Regulation.
Some of these collaborators may be located outside the EEA, in which case the international transfers will take place by means of adequate protection guarantees in accordance with the regulations in force.

What are your rights when you provide us with your data?
Right to information: when you provide us with your personal data, we will provide you with all relevant information at the time or before we collect it, in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation.

Right of access: the data subject who provides us with his or her data has the right to obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning him or her are being processed and, if so, the right of access to the data and to the relevant information.

Right of rectification: the data subject shall have the right to obtain without undue delay the rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning him/her and the right to have incomplete data completed, including by means of an additional declaration.

Right of erasure: the data subject shall have the right to obtain without undue delay the erasure of personal data relating to him or her where, inter alia, the data are no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected or processed.

Right to restriction of processing: in certain circumstances, the data subject may request that we restrict the processing of personal data relating to him or her, in which case we will process the data only with the data subject’s consent or for the purposes of the establishment, exercise or defence of claims, or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of substantial public interest.
Right to object: the data subject may object at any time, on grounds relating to his or her particular situation, to the processing of his or her personal data on the basis of Article 6(1)(e) or (f) of the General Data Protection Regulation, including profiling on the basis of these provisions.

Right not to be subject to profiling: the data subject shall have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling. Where the decision is based solely on automated processing, the data subject shall have the right to obtain human intervention by the controller, to express his or her point of view and to challenge the decision, if the processing is necessary for the conclusion or performance of a contract between the data subject and the controller or is based on the data subject’s explicit consent. Such a right shall not apply where the automatic decision is based on the data subject’s explicit consent, is necessary for the conclusion or performance of a contract between the controller and the data subject or is based on processing on the basis of applicable law.

If you as a data subject consider that there is a problem with the way we are handling your data, you can address your complaints to the supervisory authority in Spain, i.e. the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos).

What categories of personal data do we process and how did we obtain your data?
The categories of data we process are the following: identification data, contact data (telephone, postal address and email address), geolocation data, voice data, image and social media profiles, behavioural data.
The personal data we process have been provided by the data subject.

GENERAL

Advertising, video and photography
The participant expressly accepts and authorises the use and reproduction of his/her name, logo or prevailing trademark for the purpose of participation in these prizes.

During the Awards Event, you agree that promotional video footage may be filmed and photographs may be taken, which may include all participants of the Awards Event. You hereby confirm and consent to your inclusion in such videos and photographs. You hereby grant us a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, assignable and transferable right to use such video footage and photographs in our marketing, advertising and publicity materials and activities.

Participation in the WA4STEAM Awards implies full acceptance of these terms and conditions and express submission to the interpretative decisions made by the organisers. In the event of any divergence between the participants in the promotion and the interpretation of these rules by the Organisation, the Courts and Tribunals of Barcelona will be competent to hear any disputes that may arise.

CHANGES
The organiser reserves the right to make changes to the deadlines, the jury and the entry criteria without prior notice.
The Organisation reserves the right to make changes to these rules or to add subsequent annexes on the mechanics and gifts, provided that these changes are justified or do not harm the participants, and that they are duly communicated to them during the course of the promotion.
In any case, the Organisation reserves the right to suspend the promotion/contest for any reason, giving prior notice on the event’s website.
